1.İNGİLİZCE DİL EĞİTİMİ TEKNİKLERİ KONFERANSI
İkinci yabancı dil olarak İngilizceyi öğrenmekte olan öğrencilerimizin dili daha etkili bir şekilde kullanmaları, hayat boyu öğrenmeyi, dünyanın çeşitli ülkelerinden arkadaşları ile geliştirdikleri ortaklaşa, projeye dayalı, öğrenci merkezli, motive edici ve kendilerine olan güvenlerini arttırıcı dil eğitimi tekniklerinin sunulduğu konferansın ilki 28 Mayıs günü gerçekleştirilmiştir. Dil bilimci Steve Darn, Alan Scott ve Guy Elders'ın eğitimci olarak katıldıkları konferans Dil Eğitimi Tekniklerindeki son gelişmeleri eğitimcilere sunması açısından oldukça faydalı olmuştur.

First ELT Conference at a government high school was held at Izmir Ataturk Lisesi on 28thMay 2011. In the first Plenary Steve Darn made emphasis on the importance of learner centred classes.Mr. Darn asked for the teachers' ideas on this type of learning and it was agreed by the great majority of the teachers that student-centred learning must focus on the student's needs, abilities, interests, and the teachers should become the facilitators or leaders of learning activity.The students can express themselves better,gain self-confidence,collaborate and they can explore their own learning styles.Mr.Darn also explained the learning pyramid and he pointed out that students learn best when they are actively involved in learning process. Inthe second Plenary Alan Scott discussed Teaching English to Turkish Students.In his presentation Mr.Scott focused on the special needs of young learners of English in Turkey and in particular the 'No Turkish' rule.He also emphasized the crucial differences between Turkish and English Grammar. In the third pleary Mr.Guy Elders introduced 'Fun Activities' to teachers.The last plenary was active all teachers actively took part in Mr.Elders fun activities in class.Games are highly motivating and they are fun while teaching Grammar or New Vocabulary items.Games provide language practice in the various skills- speaking, writing, listening and reading.They encourage students to interact and communicate. They create a meaningful context for language use.
